Guerra King’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee was thrilled to help plan and sponsor the Second Annual Diversity Fair, which occurred on May 20, 2022 at the Hillsborough County Bar Association Building in Tampa. The event had approximately 200 in person and virtual registrants and consisted of two panel discussions and a “diversity walk.” The first panel, which focused on celebrating commonality and embracing differences, was comprised of Pinellas Circuit Court Judge Michael Andrews, Florida House Representative Michelle Rayner, and Federal Defender Alec Hall. They shared inspiring stories of how they overcame obstacles and the tools they used to achieve success. The second panel was a candid discussion about mental health with Dr. Bonnie Saks, Clinical Professor of Psychology, Hillsborough Circuit Court Judges Michael Bagge Hernandez and Monique Scott, and Mandi Clay, Immediate Past President of the Hillsborough County Association of Women Lawyers. They provided tips to help practitioners identify signs of depression and mental illness and provided useful coping mechanisms. The Diversity Walk highlighted voluntary Florida Bar Associations that elevate women and diverse voices in the legal community. Attendees were given the opportunity to engage with over ten voluntary bar associations about their cause and how they can become involved. Embedded in Guerra King’s DNA is a commitment to achieving a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community, and we are honored to serve the community in this way.
